Stadsschouwburg Theatre

Housed in an impressive baroque-style structure is Amsterdam's municipal theatre, the Stadsschouwburg. The theatre showcases various intriguing productions that include national as well as international theatre, music and dance performances. The auditorium, shaped like a horse-shoe is adorned by golden chandeliers, velvet red curtains, grand stairs, impressive wall paintings and can seat about 1200 visitors. Dominating the western part of Leidseplein, you will not only be treated to some scintillating performances at the Stadsschouwburg Theatre, but also to some interesting performances outside by street artists, who take advantage of the acoustics of the arcade. The theatre otherwise showcases the talent of the Toneelgroep, one of the leading theatre groups in the Netherlands.
