Museum Willet-Holthuysen

Amsterdam

Buildings and Monuments Museums

Walk into the Museum Willet-Holthuysen to be transported into the Dutch Golden Age. With its extensive collection of art, books, silverware, and plates, this gorgeous museum mesmerises its visitors and takes them back into the glorious past of Amsterdam. It showcases an era when the wealthy not only lived like royalty, but also adorned their residence to reflect their sophisticated taste with exquisite furnishings and extravagant art work. The Museum Willet-Holthuysen came into being as a result of a will by the lady of the house. While this elegant canal house was built in 1687, its last owner, Mrs. Willet-Holthuysen not only renovated it, but also willed it to be preserved by the city and be opened to visitors as a museum.
