Hollandsche Schouwburg

Museums
The Hollandsche Schouwburg was originally built in 1892, as a Dutch theatre. It quickly gained widespread acclaim, becoming an epicenter of relaxation and entertainment. Once you step inside, you will witness for yourself, the gruesome persecution that haunted the Jews in the WWII period. Popular opinion states that the Jew was tortured and eliminated in the concentration camp. However, the Hollandsche Schouwburg proves that the torment began much before that, in the form of cruel bureaucratic measures and petty treatment meted out to people of Jewish origin by their German captors. Hollandsche Schouwburg is, plainly put, a must-visit for history buffs. Visitors here can see for themselves, the deplorable metamorphosis of the Artis Theater from a center for art and entertainment into a deportment camp for Jews in captivity during the Nazi occupation of Netherlands.
