Buildings and Monuments
This building named 'Stronghold' dates from 1903 and formely housed the Vakbondsmuseum, or 'Trade Unions Museum'. This museum exhibited the history of the workers' movement from the perspective of creating an understanding between workers and companies. Designed by Hendrick Petrus Berlage, the building resembles his other famous design, the Beurs van Berlage, located near Centraal Station. This famous Dutch architect was note for his recognizable style of sober, yet decorative. Made from bricks, stones, and tiles, the building is adorned with stained glass windows. This unique and special building is in and of itself an exhibit that must not be missed. You can visit the building, which is still very interesting but the museum has now been closed.
